Hello Ladies! Let's spend some time chatting about natural hair. Some of you may know that I have changed from perm to natural hair for the past ten months and now I recently removed the permed ends as of January this year.
You may be wondering what has it been like thus far, right? The truth is I can’t say just yet because I have been wearing protective styles such as wigs, weaves, and braids as I try to gain some added length.
The purpose of my writing this article is to share some tips and tricks on how I care for my hair while it is under a braid, weave or wig. These tips work on both natural as well as relaxed hair.
If you have natural hair use weaves that keep all your hair tucked away. You can also braid your hair and tuck it under one of my faves; Magic Lace Braided Lace Front Wig.
Below are some tips
- Protective styling means that you leave your natural hair untouched for a couple of weeks. Keep your hair underneath wig washed and braided. Condition and moisturize to keep your hair hydrated. If you are rocking a wig, you can maintain your hair without removing the cornrows by following this routine. Use a light oil, for example, coconut oil once per week to seal in moisture, tie up nightly and sleep on a satin pillowcase. Do this weekly to prevent breakage and buildup.
When wearing a weave, wash monthly or if possible every two weeks. Pay attention to your scalp without messing with the actual weave as you do not want to cause tangling. If you have relaxed or natural hair, I must say that it is necessary that you give your hair time to dry before going to bed. The reason for this is wet hair for extended periods of time increase the likelihood of getting a fungal scalp infection which stunts hair growth and defeats the purpose of the protective styling in the first place.
- Well, that's it! Wigs are excellent for protective styles, and they will grow the hair once you do it correctly. They also allow you to make changes to your looks and color without having to cut or bleach. Skip the grueling hours of braiding and try out my favorite Braided Lace Front Wig!
